Stacey
Stern is the creative force and technical expertise behind Steracle
Press.
Stacey has been doing custom letterpress printing for 7 years. Her
passion for the craft began with her instructor Cathy Ruggie-Saunders,
who studied under the great Walter Hamady. Stacey's clients have
included the Waco Brothers, Sally Timms, The Poetry Foundation,
United Airlines, the W Hotel, Mohawk Fine Papers, Letterheads
Ltd. and producers of The Oprah Winfrey Show. Currently she
teaches letterpress to the community at The Center for Book and
Paper Arts (sign
up today!). Steracle Press appeared in the special
"Shopping" issue of Chicago Magazine on the stands
in August 2005. Pick up the premier issue of The Knot Chicago on stands August 2007.
In May of 2007 Stacey and two friends joined forces and debuted Cardiology Cards at the National Stationery Show in New York.
Stacey received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of
Chicago and worked at the Center for Book and Paper Arts as
the Center's Studio Coordinator for over 6 years. There, She was responsible for overseeing
the maintenance of the studios, as well as supplies and equipment
acquisition.
In her spare time Stacey collects wood type, makes book art, and
wears pink wigs. Amongst her favorite letterpress joints are The
Hamilton Wood type Museum in Two Rivers, Wisconsin and Hatch Show
print in Nashville, Tennessee.
